Caller asks for advice, the agent declines
Will an AI voice agent give financial advice?
No, and the refusal is enforced rather than hoped for. Recommendations, rate forecasts and suitability opinions sit outside what the agent will produce, on every call, without exception. A caller who asks for advice is told plainly that the agent cannot answer. The reframed version of the same question gets the same refusal. The agent then establishes the caller’s state and routes to a representative licensed there.

ScaileAIThanks for calling Ridgeline. How can I help today?
CallerI'm trying to decide — should I refinance now, or wait for rates to come down?
ScaileAIThat's genuinely a good question, and it's one I'm not able to answer. I'm an automated assistant and I can't give you a recommendation on what to do.
CallerYou can't just tell me what rates are doing?
ScaileAII can't forecast that either. What I can do is put you with a licensed loan officer who can walk through it with you. Which state are you in?
CallerArizona.
ScaileAIConnecting you to someone licensed in Arizona now.
What ScaileAI did
Six things happened on this call.
- Recognized the request as advice rather than as a product question.
- Declined immediately and said why, instead of deflecting or changing the subject.
- Declined the follow-up too, when the caller reframed it as a question about rates.
- Did not speculate about rate direction, which is the same refusal in a different costume.
- Established the caller's state before routing, because the license is state-specific.
- Logged the request and the refusal, so the boundary is provable in an audit rather than asserted in a policy document.
Why it matters
The commercial consequence.
Every regulated firm evaluating voice AI is really asking one question, and it has nothing to do with conversion. They want to know whether the system can be trusted not to say something that creates liability. That answer cannot be a policy document. It has to be a recording. This call is that artefact: a caller pushes twice for a recommendation, gets a clean refusal both times and is handed to the correct license in under fifty seconds. A human representative having a long day is the variable this removes. The agent is not having a day.
